The first film from Auraeus Solito was a big hit at the London Film Festival in 2006 and a big hit at the London Lesbian & Gay Film Festival in 2007. In the Berlin Film festival in 2006 Maxi was the first film ever to win both the Kinderfest (children's prize) and the Teddy (gay prize). It has been a big festival hit worldwide.
12-year-old Maxi walks and sways his hips, high on life, laughing and joking with his playmates. Like any DIVA he has a wardrobe to die for - an assortment of sandals, shorts and shirts in every colour imaginable. His mum has passed away and his dad and brothers, who are devout Catholics, have turned to stealing mobile phones to earn a better living. Maxi cooks, cleans and sews for them and is their alibi when things go wrong. However it all becomes complicated when he meets and falls for an unbribeable, by-the-book rookie cop, Victor - which spells disaster for the family operations. Shot in the slums of Sampaloc, Manila, this remarkable film has captured audiences' imaginations and hearts around the globe.
