German drama directed by Hans-Christian Schmid which is based on the true story of Michaela, a young, lower-middle-class woman in the 1970s from a devout Catholic home, suffering from epilepsy. Filled with guilt and cruelly treated by her insensitive mother, she comes to believe during her first term at university that she is possessed by evil spirits. Her parents tell her to keep taking the pills and they are supported by the elderly local priest, who says that devils are just figures of speech.
